If you’re looking for a trip that serves up exhilarating whitewater, sacred archaeology, dramatic geology, thriving desert gardens, and pristine wilderness camping, then it’s time to carve out some time for a three day Salt River trip. This remote stretch truly showcases the rarities of the Salt River Canyon is as it ribbons into a slice of desert paradise seldom ever see. Each day promises for beautiful beach camping, a side canyon rendezvous, big and technical rapids, and time to take it all in.

Salt River Daily Trip

Itinerary & Map

Day One Itinerary

9:30 AM
Meet at our Salt River office at 9:30 AM.
 
Check in, sign release forms, load gear bags and get dressed for the river! Wetsuits and booties are provided.
 
 
Shuttle to the river for your safety orientation and boating instructions.
 
Hit the river!
 
Tackle “Exhibition” & “Cibecue” rapids.!
 
If time allows, take a break to hike Cibecue Canyon with it’s sheer walls towering overhead and it’s magnificent waterfall!
 
Tackle “Mini Ledges,” “Three Ways,” “Raft Ripper,” “Beehive” & “Mescal Falls”.
 
Float by the sacred Salt Banks.
 
Stop for lunch. Enjoy a moderate hike to the base of spectacular Walnut Falls.
 
Back on the raft for “Rock Garden.”
 
Spend a fantastic, relaxing night in the wilderness around the campfire. Let our guides cater to you as they cook a delicious dinner.
 
After dinner, relax under the stars and enjoy campfire fun!

Day Two Itinerary

Day Two
Wake up to the smell of hot coffee and enjoy a hearty breakfast.
 
Hit the river for the invigorating “Rat Trap” & “White Rock” while you enter the White Rock Gorge.
 
View ancient ruins from the river and explore Canyon Creek.
 
Experience more whitewater with “Canyon Creek” & “Granite”.
 
Lunch is in the Inner Gorge where you are surrounded by the unforgettable polished white granite.
 
Experience a few more rapids after lunch before pulling off for the evening.
 
Relax as our gourmet-guide chefs prepare dinner and set up a campfire before another peaceful night under the stars.

Day Three Itinerary

Day Three
Wake to yet another delicious, guide-prepared breakfast.
 
Hit the river for the final 6-7 miles of whitewater as the canyon begins to open up around you.
 
Tackle more Class II rapids, such as: “Coral”, “Quartzite” and “Black Rock”.
 
Stop for lunch to refuel.
 
Experience more river time after lunch before you take out at Roosevelt Reservoir at approximately 1:00 PM.
4:30 PM
Shuttle back to the Salt River office, and your vehicle. (Ask about our car shuttle service to save you almost 4 hours of drive time back to the meet location – we’ll bring your car to the take out for you, and you can leave from there to continue your Arizona journey!)

Experience our 15-foot self-bailing rafts (up to 8 guests)

All guests are encouraged to paddle, but are not required to paddle. Boats will be set up as a paddle or oar boat based on the conditions at the time of the trip.

Payments & Cancellations

Payment Options

  1. Pay in full.
  2. 1/2 down, 1/2 charged 30 days prior to trip.
  3. 1/3 down with remaining balance charged in thirds.
  4. Call for other arrangements!

We don’t want you to miss out on this trip so we’ll hold your spots, payment-free, for 24hrs while you make your final arrangements & prepare for payment.

Fees

In addition to the listed trip cost, we collect an additional 9% for River and Land Access Fees (ie. Forest Service, BLM, City, Private Land Use) & a $60 Apache Tribal Land Access Fee.

Cancellation Policy

  • 60+ days: Receive a refund less $200 per person unrecoverable fees.
  • 45+ days: Reschedule for another trip/date, or receive Mild to Wild gift certificate less $200 per person.
  • Less than 45 days, unfortunately there will be no refund. Substitutions/name changes are allowed.
  • RoamRight Travel Insurance is recommended to help cover unforeseen circumstances, such as cancelled flights, sickness or medical evacuations.
  • Guests needing to be evacuated from the canyon will be charged a minimum of $1,000 per person.

What to Wear & Bring

Provided by Mild to Wild in all Salt Reservations:

  • Wetsuit
  • Wetsuit boots
  • Splash Jacket

To Wear/Bring Yourself:

  • Fleece jacket and fleece socks
  • Swimsuit/Quick drying clothing (avoid cotton because it stays the temperature of the water and keeps you cold)
  • Hat (that fits under your helmet)
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses with a strap
  • Water bottle
  • Snacks
  • Camera with waterproof case
