Lower Animas in Durango

Mild | Class II-III Rapids

The Lower Animas is a popular run through the charming historic town of Durango. This is the quintessential Colorado family rafting trip, loved by locals and visitors alike for its exciting yet friendly Class II and III rapids. Between splashes, you’ll find calm sections perfect for swimming and taking in the scenery. It’s a great mild trip for all skill levels.

Clear Creek in Idaho Springs, Near Denver

Beginner Intermediate | Class III-IV Rapids

Just 30 minutes from Denver, our Clear Creek rafting trips boast some of Colorado’s most famous whitewater. This Rocky Mountain adventure combines exciting rapids, alpine scenery, and rich mining history. Flowing through Idaho Springs, Clear Creek offers an impressive concentration of rapids, with both mild and intermediate sections to choose from.

San Miguel River near Telluride

Intermediate | Class II-III Rapids

Rippling down from Telluride’s jaw-dropping peaks, the San Miguel is one of the most fun and scenic white water rafting trips in Colorado. The morning section paddles through a narrow, twisting corridor with constant Class II-III rapids, while the afternoon stretch offers a more relaxed float through Norwood Canyon.

Upper Piedra near Pagosa Springs

Upper Animas near Silverton

Wild | Class III-V

The Upper Animas offers the most extreme and demanding white water rafting in Colorado. Deep within the Weminuche Wilderness, this section drops an average of 85 feet per mile with continuous Class III-V rapids, making it the most difficult commercially run river in the US. Our trips on the “milder” Needleton Section require physical fitness and a pre-trip orientation. This adventure includes a ride on the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.

Yampa River in Dinosaur National Monument

It is an understatement to say the Yampa is one of the most special multi-day Colorado rafting trips. As the last major free-flowing river in the state, this 72-mile journey is a true wilderness experience. Rafters are treated to stunning slickrock cliffs, rare archaeological sites, and amazing whitewater throughout.

What is the best time of year for Colorado river rafting?

The rafting season typically runs from May through September. Peak flows with the most exciting whitewater usually occur from late May to late June during the snowmelt runoff. July and August offer warmer weather and more moderate flows, which are perfect for families.

Avoid cotton clothing. We recommend synthetic layers (like nylon or fleece), a swimsuit, and secure footwear like river sandals or old sneakers. For cooler spring trips, we provide wetsuit and splash gear rentals to keep you warm.
