About This Trip

If you want to fully experience the Salt River Canyon, the four day Salt River trip is the one you want. This trip allows for the most hikes and side excursions in between daily whitewater runs. You’ll have the opportunity to explore waterfalls, ancient ruins, and incredible cacti groves blooming throughout the corridor.

Each day comes with 3 freshly prepared meals by your guides, along with ample time in camp to unwind and enjoy this captivating wilderness. See the itinerary below for more details about the gems you’ll enjoy on the four day trip.

Itinerary & Map

Day 1 Itinerary

9:30 AM

Meet at our Salt River office at 9:30 AM.

Check in, sign release forms, load gear bags and get dressed for the river! Wetsuits and booties are provided.

Shuttle to the put-in for river safety orientation and boating instructions.

Hit the river!

Tackle “Baptism,” “Island,” “Kiss and Tell,” “Wake Up” & “Boy Scout”!

Stop at Sycamore Canyon for lunch and easy exploration of the side canyon!

Get back on the river for “Grumman,” “Overboard” & the “Narrows”.

Take off the river for the day – you can relax or hike up Coyote Canyon and see it’s beautiful clear water pools while our guides prepare a delicious fajita dinner.

After dinner, relax under the stars and enjoy campfire fun!

Day 2 Itinerary

Day Two

Wake up to the smell of hot coffee and enjoy a hearty breakfast.

Head back to the rafts to challenge “Exhibition” & “Cibecue” rapids.

Tackle “Mini Ledges,” “Three Ways,” “Raft Ripper,” “Beehive” & “Mescal Falls”.

Float by the sacred Salt Banks.

Stop for lunch. Enjoy a moderate hike to the base of spectacular Walnut Falls.

Back on the raft for “Rock Garden.”

Spend another fantastic, relaxing night in the wilderness around the campfire. Let our guides cater to you as they cook another delicious dinner.

Day 3 Itinerary

Day Three

Wake to another hearty, delicious breakfast.

Hit the river for the invigorating “Rat Trap” & “White Rock” while you enter the White Rock Gorge.

View ancient ruins from the river and explore Canyon Creek.

Experience more whitewater with “Canyon Creek” & “Granite”.

Lunch is in the Inner Gorge where you are surrounded by the unforgettable polished white granite.

Experience a few more rapids after lunch before pulling off for the evening.

Relax as our gourmet-guide chefs prepare dinner and set up a campfire before another peaceful night under the stars.

Day 4 Itinerary

Day Four

Wake to yet another delicious, guide-prepared breakfast.

Hit the river for the final 6-7 miles of whitewater as the canyon begins to open up around you.

Tackle more Class II rapids, such as: “Coral”, “Quartzite” and “Black Rock”.

Stop for lunch to refuel.

Experience more river time after lunch before you take out at Roosevelt Reservoir at approximately 1:00 PM.

4:00 PM

Shuttle back to the Salt River office, and your vehicle. (Ask about our car shuttle service to save you almost 4 hours of drive time back to the meet location – we’ll bring your car to the take out for you, and you can leave from there to continue your Arizona journey!)

Would give it 4.5 stars only because it wasn't a jeep and there were 11 people.  We were all compatible, but that is not always the case with a group that large. Overall, the trip was great.

She not only provided us with in-depth information, history and theories about the sites we were seeing, but also took a lot of time at some of the less “popular” dwellings so we could understand the varied communities. Payments & Cancellations

Payment Plan

We start with 35% down, then 35% at 180 days, and 30% at 60 days before your trip. Please call for alternative payment arrangements.

Booking closer to your trip?

Within 180 days: 65% due at booking
Within 60 days: paid in full at booking

Minimum deposits apply.

Cancellation Policy

60+ days: Receive a refund less $200 per person unrecoverable fees.
45+ days: Reschedule for another trip/date, or receive Mild to Wild gift certificate less $200 per person.
Less than 45 days, unfortunately there will be no refund. Substitutions/name changes are allowed.
RoamRight Travel Insurance is recommended to help cover unforeseen circumstances, such as cancelled flights, sickness or medical evacuations.
Guests needing to be evacuated from the canyon will be charged a minimum of $1,000 per person.

Fees

In addition to the listed trip cost, we collect an additional 9% for River and Land Access Fees (ie. Forest Service, BLM, City, Private Land Use) & a $60 Apache Tribal Land Access Fee.

Trip Departure Policy

We reserve the right to switch river/locations based on current conditions and a minimum number of participants. This trip requires 4 participants or paid seats to depart.

We don’t want you to miss out on this trip so we’ll hold your spots, payment-free, for 24hrs while you make your final arrangements & prepare for payment.
