About Mesa Verde Tours
Mesa Verde National Park is one of the most significant archeological sites in the world as it hosts hundreds of massive cliff dwellings and thousands of ancient ruins. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an International Dark Sky Park, and home to several species found nowhere else on Earth. So, one could say it’s kind of a big deal!
Mesa Verde is unlike any other National Park you’ll visit, in that it is an outdoor museum sprawled across a dramatic landscape. It is perfectly enjoyable to explore on your own, however you’ll forgo the majority of what there is to know about the cliff dwellings and other archeological sites.
Our Mesa Verde Tours allow you to explore the best areas of the park with extremely knowledgeable guides. Our guides provide a wealth of insight on the Ancestral Puebloan culture, how they built the incredible structures looming along the canyon walls, and many other fascinating facts about the region.

I'm so glad we took this adventure with Cat Bray. She brought history to life and brought our group together as friends. This 71 year old appreciates the support that gave me the courage to make it down & back up the ladders so I could fully experience the opportunity. Thanks!Posted on Bob HoffmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Miles was entertaining and very knowledgeable. He made the trip fun and worthwhile. I would use MILD to Wild nest time in the area.Posted on Burt TTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My wife and I had a Mesa Verde van tour in late October with Miles. He provided outstanding information about the archeology, indigenous peoples, terrain, climate throughout our tour. I also called the phone line and spoke with Tim about hiking opportunities in the Durango area. He listened and gave us effective guidance. This company provides excellent service!Posted on Kim ReynoldsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our full day tour in the Mesa Verde area was breathtaking. Got to see parts of the world that will just blow your mind. We were particularly happy with our tour guide, Jay who really knew the history and geology of the area and gave us insights into history that we had not understood before.Posted on Natalie NormanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Fantastic experience on our Mesa Verde National Park tour! They had to make some last-minute itinerary changes due to park staffing/government shutdown, but we still had a great time! Our tour guide Jay was very knowledgeable and extremely personable. He quickly felt like one of our family as we ventured out to the high desert. He made a point to connect with all of us, but he went out of his way to personally interact with our 2 daughters (10 and 12) and made the experience special for them. They learned so much! He was also very helpful when some of us weren't feeling so great at the high altitude! I would book with this company again in a heartbeat, especially if I could get a tour with Jay!! Thanks for the lifetime memories. What a beautiful area!Posted on Allison PosellTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Miles was amazing, knowledgeable, and made sure that the unexpected weather and flooding in the area did not keep us from having a good experience. Thank you for the great service recovery and adventure!Posted on Casey MastTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Cat was our tour guide, and we had a great Jeep tour with the Trails and Rails – Jeep Tour & Train Package. We explored in Silverton area by Jeep and saw a ghost/mining town near the head in the Animas River. The views were amazing!

Mesa Verde National Park Tour FAQs
When is the best time for a guided tour of Mesa Verde?
Anytime during our season (March through October) offers a fascinating look at the park’s history!
- Spring (March–May): A peaceful time to visit with cooler temperatures, perfect for exploring the mesa-top ruins and overlooks.
- Summer (June–August): The most popular time to visit. While the desert sun is strong, our climate-controlled vans help maintain your comfort between stops. Our morning departures allow you to explore before the peak afternoon heat.
- Fall (September–October): A beautiful window with mild weather and crisp mountain air, providing excellent visibility across the four-states region from the park’s high points.
When can I book a Mesa Verde tour?
Our Mesa Verde tours run daily from early spring through late October. We offer Half-Day tours (morning or afternoon) meeting in Mancos, and our all-inclusive Mesa Verde Discovery Tour departing from Durango. Because we provide the park entry fees and handle the competitive Ranger-led tour tickets for sites like Cliff Palace (on our Discovery Tour), we recommend booking as early as possible to ensure your spot during the busy summer months.
What is the minimum age for a Mesa Verde National Park tour?
We welcome adventurers of all ages on our Mesa Verde tours! While there is no strict minimum age, please keep in mind that exploring the cliff dwellings involves uneven stone steps and, on some routes, climbing wooden ladders.
Colorado law requires car seats or boosters for children under 8 years old. To support a professional environment and adhere to local regulations, please bring the appropriate car seat or booster for use in our tour vehicles.
What should I wear and bring on my Mesa Verde tour?
Mesa Verde is an outdoor museum, so being prepared for the sun and light walking is key to a great day. We recommend:
- Clothing: Breathable, lightweight layers. Even in summer, a light jacket is useful for the cooler morning air at higher elevations.
- Footwear: Sturdy, closed-toe walking shoes or sneakers with good traction. No flip-flops or Crocs, as the trails and ladders require secure footing.
- Essentials: A wide-brimmed sun hat, polarized sunglasses, and waterproof sunscreen.
- Gear: A refillable water bottle (we provide water for refills and snacks) and your camera. For those on our Discovery Tour, a small daypack is helpful for carrying personal items during the Ranger-led walks.
Visit our full gear guide here.
Are guided tours in Mesa Verde National Park safe?
Guided sightseeing and walking tours in a high-altitude National Park involve inherent risks related to terrain, steep ladders, and weather that cannot be fully eliminated. Therefore, we require all guests to sign a liability waiver and assumption of risk. To minimize these risks, we utilize professional, air-conditioned transit vans and employ expert interpretive guides certified in CPR and First Aid. Our guides provide thorough safety briefings and pace the tour to prioritize a professional and secure environment while you explore these ancient cliff dwellings.
