Moab, Utah Vacation Planning FAQs
When is the best time to visit Moab for outdoor adventures?
For the best balance of weather and water, May through September is the prime window. May and June offer the most exciting rafting during the spring runoff, while the late summer months of July and August are perfect for warm-water float and swim trips. If you are focused on land adventures like Jeep or National Park tours, the milder temperatures of spring (March–May) and fall (September–October) are ideal for exploring the red rocks comfortably.
When can I book trips in Moab?
Our Moab adventure season generally runs from March through early November. We offer daily departures for rafting, Jeep tours, and guided Arches National Park tours throughout this time. To ensure you get the most out of your vacation, we recommend booking an adventure value package so you can experience the desert from the river, the trails, and the national parks all in one visit.
What is the minimum age for Moab adventures?
For our standard Colorado River rafting trips and Moab Jeep tours, the minimum age is 4 years old. For those looking for more independence on the water, the minimum age for a single inflatable kayak is 12+, while double kayaks can accommodate ages 8+ when accompanied by an adult.
What should I wear and bring on my Moab vacation?
Moab’s weather can be unpredictable, so dressing in layers is essential.
- On the River: Wear a swimsuit or quick-dry athletic clothing (avoid cotton) and secure river sandals or old sneakers.
- On the Land: Wear sturdy hiking shoes or sneakers (no flip-flops or Crocs), a sun hat, and lightweight UPF-rated layers.
- Essentials: Always bring a refillable water bottle, polarized sunglasses with a retention strap, waterproof sunscreen, and a camera to capture the scenery.
You can find a detailed list of what to wear and bring here.
Are white water rafting and Jeep tours in Moab safe?
Adventure activities like white water rafting and off-road Jeep tours are inherently dangerous and involve risks that cannot be fully eliminated; therefore, we require all guests to sign a liability waiver and assumption of risk. However, your safety is our top priority. To minimize risk, we employ professional guides who are trained beyond the state requirements and are certified in CPR and First Aid. Whether you are on the water in our high-quality self-bailing rafts or on the trail in our custom-modified open-air vehicles, our guides provide thorough briefings and instructions.
