How to Beat The Heat

Weather In Moab - What to Expect

Given Moab’s high desert climate, temperatures can change quickly no matter the season. The summer is undeniably hot, but what are the rest of the seasons like? We’ve got the highs and lows and what to expect for each season in Moab. Coming in the summer months? Scroll down to the bottom for some insider’s tips on how to beat the heat.

#1 Rafting

Can’t beat it? Blanch it. Rafting on the Colorado River in Castle Valley has fun rapids for all ages along with calm scenic sections that beckon swan dives and canyon balls.

#2 Slot Canyoneering

Go to the shade and stay there. Scramble, swim and rappel through the Fiery Furnace in Arches National Park, or the depths of Ephedra’s Grotto. Dropping into a crevice will literally make you cooler than the average hiker.

#3 Skydiving

Want to catch a breeze? Why not just fall into one for a few thousand feet. Become the scorcher while simultaneously checking off a bucket list classic.

#4 Escape to the La Sal Mountains

Turn the tables Moab’s midday mug. The view of the La Sal’s snow caps are just dandy, so get up there and enjoy their natural air conditioning in the comfort of brisk alpine elevation.

#5 Sunrise and Sunset Photoshoot

The early bird gets… less traffic and a chance of heatstroke. Or, a late start could very well be for the better! Many of the areas arcs are so suspiciously placed to perfection, one might question if they formed solely to frame the most romantic moments of the day.

#6 Stargazing

Utah is lit, like, literally. One doesn’t have to go far from Moab to see the cosmos laid bare from the burden of polluting street lights. Shooting stars and the Milky Way put on a display nearly every night.

#7 Muddin’

Here’s to mud in your eye, ear and probably other places you didn’t think possible. Chicken Corners, Onion Creek and The Needles in Canyonlands are great places to make a 4×4 unrecognizable.

#8 Frolick Along Desert Creeks

Avoid treeless trails that are an Easy Bake Oven without the reward of an undercooked brownie. Hunter Canyon and Mill Creek are easy, refreshing trails that offer shade, natural swimming pools, and waterfalls.
