We just finished the half day river rafting experience out of Moab Utah. It was wonderful. The safety information at the beginning was very reassuring. All of the guides were friendly and approachable. Our Guide was Griffin who was just perfect. He was easy going and very competent. He was knowledgeable about the geological formations and the history of the land. He gave us a choice of paddling or not paddling and clearly knew the river very well. He provided us with many opportunities to jump into the water and then helped people back into the raft. After having been to Arches National Park the day before this was a perfect complement to see the magnificent rock formations while smoothly gliding by. The people in the office we're very accurate in their description of this experience. Most of the time we were gliding along with periodic rapids that were not challenging. Everything about this day was a delight.

I honestly couldn’t have imagined a better experience than our 4-day whitewater rafting adventure through Cataract Canyon on the Colorado River in Moab, Utah. The first and last days were mostly scenic, giving us plenty of time to take in the incredible beauty of the canyon, while Days 2 and 3 were absolutely packed with adventure as we tackled some incredible rapids and hikes along the way! The combination of adrenaline, scenery, and being completely immersed in the canyon was unforgettable. But what made this trip truly special were our guides, Jackson and Jeff. These guys were phenomenal! Not only were they incredibly knowledgeable and skilled on the river, but they somehow managed to prepare restaurant-quality meals every day in the middle of the canyon. After a full day on the river, sitting down to an amazing meal was something we looked forward to every evening. And then came the nights… Sleeping underneath the stars in Cataract Canyon was an experience I'll never forget. With virtually no light pollution, the night sky was absolutely incredible. We saw thousands of stars, hundreds of satellites, Starlink passing overhead, the Milky Way in incredible detail, and meteor showers unlike anything I've ever seen. Lying there in the canyon, looking straight up at that sky, was surreal 🙂 We weren't just rafting. We were camping, exploring, hearing stories about some of the epic adventures and history of Cataract Canyon, and laughing around camp while Jackson and Jeff kept the nights filled with hilarious stories and jokes. The entire trip felt like the perfect combination of adventure, relaxation, incredible scenery, great food, and unforgettable memories. A huge shoutout to Jackson and Jeff for making the experience what it was. Their professionalism, knowledge, cooking skills, humor, and genuine passion for the river made an already incredible trip even better. If you're considering a multi-day rafting trip through Cataract Canyon, DO IT. I couldn't have imagined a better time. 10/10 without hesitation. Five stars all day long!

My review is for the nervous parents out there, the parents who go to “worst case scenario” when faced with an adventure activity. My husband booked this experience for our family (2 adults, 2 teens). I was prepared to be a good sport, even though I don’t like water activities or going fast 😬. There was a moment before we left for rafting that I even considered sitting out of the experience. What a mistake that would have been! The adventure was fantastic! We had Zach as our guide on the water. He was confident and easy going, which gave me some time to relax and to give myself permission to gasp, “have fun”. The trip itself was calm, we saw beautiful landscapes, and it was a great way to see Utah. We did the Class 1 and 2 rapids, and as someone who doesn’t like water activities, I even found going through them to be fun. I had a smile on my face the whole time. I am so glad I have this as a family memory. If you choose to select this adventure, I hope you enjoy yourself as much as I did.

Mild and Wild lives up to its name. Despite a gentle current Gavin, our guide, ensured we hit the best part of the rapids and had many chances to dive in and enjoy the cool water. Not only is Gavin an extremely competent and capable guide he kept us engaged with so many great stories and historical anecdotes about the river, the state of Utah and current events. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and informative afternoon. Thank you Gavin!

Arches National Park Half Day Tour Utah, United States Very enjoyable and great decision to take a tour rather than drive ourselves. I tried to post the following on Viator but my review was rejected. I can't see why. I said "Better to ride and look out windows than to drive. Brilliant. Brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant. "

Tom was the best guide! Even though this was on the “mild” side of mild to wild it was one of my favorite things we did on our trip to Utah.

White Water Rafting Utah FAQs

When is the best time to go white water rafting in Utah?

It depends on the river’s character! For high-water thrills on the Yampa River or Cataract Canyon on the Colorado River, June is the peak month driven by natural snowmelt and dam releases. If you are looking for a quintessential summer wilderness experience with warm swimming temperatures and perfect beach camping, July and August are spectacular for Desolation Canyon and the Gates of Lodore on the Green River aoffering consistent flows and stunning desert scenery. If you’re looking for a single day rafting trip in Utah, May and June are the most popular months to raft the Castle Valley section of the Colorado River near Moab

Our Utah rafting season typically runs from March through October. Many of our Utah rafting trips—like the Yampa and Gates of Lodore—are managed by a strict National Park Service permit system, dates are limited and often book up months in advance. We offer everything from 1-day splashes to immersive 5-day wilderness expeditions throughout the spring, summer, and fall.

The minimum age to raft in Utah is 4 years old and/or 35lbs on the Castle Valley section of the Colorado River near Moab.

In the high desert, sun protection and quick-drying layers are your best friends! For multi-day trips, we provide all rafting equipment, group camping equipment, and delicious meals. We recommend:

  • Clothing: Lightweight, synthetic long-sleeve sun shirts and board shorts. Avoid cotton, as it can make you feel chilled when wet.
  • Footwear: Secure river sandals with a heel strap (like Chacos or Tevas) or old sneakers. No flip-flops or Crocs.
  • Essentials: A sun protective hat, polarized sunglasses with a retention strap (like Chums), and waterproof sunscreen.

You can find our comprehensive packing list for all of our rafting trips on our what to wear and bring page.

White water rafting is an inherently dangerous activity with risks that cannot be entirely eliminated. As a result, we require all guests to sign a liability waiver and assumption of risk before departing. However, your experience is our top priority. To minimize risk, we employ professional guides that exceed state training requirements and trip leaders that average 2,000 river miles of experience. We utilize quality and well maintained self bailing rafts, U.S. Coast Guard approved personal floatation devices, and helmets.
