More About This Trip
Mild to Wild is proud to offer guided adventures on the Granite Via Ferrata near Buena Vista in partnership with our trusted outfitter, AVA Raft & Zipline. This unique experience blends hiking and rock climbing into one unforgettable high-alpine adventure, allowing guests to safely ascend otherwise inaccessible cliff faces.
Your trip begins with a check-in and safety orientation, where guides introduce you to the specialized via ferrata equipment and techniques. After gearing up, a short scenic approach hike brings you to the base of the route, where the climb begins.
The via ferrata follows a carefully designed path up a rugged granite wall, using a system of fixed steel cables, iron rungs, and anchors that keep you securely attached at all times. As you ascend, you’ll encounter a variety of terrain—from vertical sections that get your heart pumping to horizontal traverses that let you pause and take in the sweeping views of the Arkansas River below.
Along the way, the route incorporates exciting features that elevate the experience beyond traditional hiking. Narrow ledges, exposed sections, and optional challenges create a sense of progression and accomplishment, while still remaining accessible to first-time climbers. Guides are with you throughout the journey, offering encouragement, technique tips, and assistance as needed.
Reaching higher elevations rewards you with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valley, making the climb as visually stunning as it is physically engaging. The descent is managed safely with guide support, allowing you to reflect on the experience and the ground you’ve covered.
No previous climbing experience is required, making the Granite Via Ferrata an excellent option for adventurous beginners, families with older children, and groups looking to try something new. It’s also a great fit for experienced outdoor enthusiasts who want a fresh perspective on Colorado’s rugged terrain.
Located near Buena Vista, the via ferrata is easily combined with other local adventures. Many guests choose to pair their climb with a rafting trip on the nearby Arkansas River, creating a full day that highlights both the vertical and whitewater excitement this region is known for.

Our jeep trail tour in Silverton, Colorado was absolutely breathtaking. The scenery was unreal, the views were stunning, and the weather was perfect - it felt like a postcard the whole way through. Jay was an amazing guide. He was kind, patient, and incredibly thoughtful, making sure we had water and blankets when the cold rolled in. On top of that, he was super knowledgeable about the rocks, the history, and the entire area, which made the experience even more special. If you're visiting Silverton, definitely ask for Jay. He made our adventure unforgettable.Posted on Google Chris WallaceTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had an amazing tour of Mesa Verde. Our tour guide, Jay Bird, did a great job narrating our trip. He made us all feel welcome and provided lots of great information about the history and sights we were seeing. He was clearly passionate about the park. The van we rode in was spotlessly clean, including the windows which made viewing easy. We will definitely be using Mild to Wild tours again.Posted on Google Megan ButlerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Gavin was a phenomenal guide! We did the half-day morning kayak adventure and had a great time!! There was a nice combination of class I and II rapids with calm waters in between, allowing us to enjoy the views and take photos. Gavin was knowledgeable about everything we were seeing - he even pointed out rock formations, animals, etc. that we hadn’t known to look out for. Highly recommend asking for Gavin if you’re going on a river adventure through Mild 2 Wild - he will not disappoint!! You’ll have a hell of a good time and learn so much about the area!Posted on Google Bill RobinetteTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Cat was our tour guide.
