Want to live it up like a local, but don’t have the money? Add these adventurous yet budget-friendly yet activities to your to-do list while you’re in Telluride!
#1 Catch a Splash
Late May marks the start of a righteous runoff from Telluride’s peaks, and thus, righteous ripples of the San Miguel to follow. This river requires only fun-loving, paddle hungry vigilantes in need of a refreshing rinse and good story after takeout.
#2 Catch a Fish
In a place where the fish are aplenty and doused with rainbows, you’re going to want to find yourself knee deep or in a boat around these parts. Trout Lake, the San Miguel or Dolores River are exceptional places to catch your dinner.
#3 Hike to Alpine Lakes
Go ahead, take a look at a map and try to tell us this area isn’t splattered with swim spots. Any direction you head, as long as it’s up, you’re likely to find a lake to enjoy beneath the peaks.
#4 Crawl Old Mining Roads
And find the mines at the end of them! Mining is the entire reason Telluride exists, and the routes to the mills that remain are just as rugged as they were 100 years ago. So, bring some driving experience, some backbone, and the 4X4.
#5 FLOW THE BIKE TRAILS
Without the calve-murdering climb! Telluride’s ski mountain lets you rip a run even after the snow melts at the Bike Park.
#6 Get High, Via Ferrata
An excellent way to brag back at the bar about getting the most exclusive view of town. You’ll need some climbing experience to walk these nearly-non-existent steps hanging 200 feet above the valley floor, but if you’re down to get up and work for it, clip on in.
#7 Get Down, via Music Festival
Spring brings the bluegrass to the box canyon, along with a slew of other festivals if banjos aren’t your thing— Don’t speak of it if so, Coloradoan religion runs deep in the twang. The Telluride Bluegrass Festival is the most popular for a very good reason though, so, get a ticket early!
#8 Get Limbre with Yogis
Nothing calls for a good vinyasa like high altitude! Despite Telluride’s petite size, people are serious about their downward dog around here. Hit a studio, or the Yoga Festival and om it up, you yogi you.
