Animas River Trail

With over 7 miles of paved walkway, the Animas River Trail provides easy access to parks, beaches and community attractions. Take a walk through Durango, get to know your surroundings, and join the locals sitting by the river! This is a great way to experience Durango’s laid-back nature for free.

Durango Fish Hatchery

One of the many gems along the river trail, the Durango Fish Hatchery is the oldest state-owned hatchery in Colorado. Take a self-guided tour of the facilities to learn about the lifecycles of rainbow trout – feeding them is a must!

Hiking

One of the best things about Durango is the accessibility of trails. Many local favorites can be accessed directly from town, or by a short drive. Animas Mountain trail is just north of town, and is a quick way to get above Durango. Similarly, Horse Gulch is a hidden gem for mountain bikers and hikers alike. Perhaps the most famous trail in Colorado, The Colorado Trail ends just outside of Durango – well worth the short drive! Just remember to bring water, layers and snacks! Explore other hikes here.

Animas River

While the Animas River Trail is a great way to get around Durango, the river itself is an aquatic playground free for all! On the north end of town, Oxbow Park offers a large beach, perfect for families and groups to spread out and enjoy the refreshing water. If you’re looking for excitement, head down to Santa Rita Whitewater Park to see some whitewater action.
