WE GET IT. WE HAVE KIDS. WE LOVE KIDS! WE REALLY ARE JUST BIG KIDS!
There’s nothing like making memories and bonding with the people we love most! As nature lovers and constant outdoor fun-havers, our family knows that the best way to bring people together is through an experience that brings as much excitement as it does serenity.
Call us biased, but we think you’ll agree that adventuring out on the water, in the mountains, or in the canyons is one of the best ways to do that. You can’t help but be yourself after a while out here, and that’s what unwinding and connecting with your family is all about!
At Mild to Wild, we are proud to share white water rafting, off-roading, and national park tour adventures in the most beautiful outdoor spaces across Colorado, Utah, and Arizona. Family owned and operated for more than 30 years, we are dedicated to creating deeper connections with the people you love through nature and adventure. We hope you’re inspired to let us show you what these incredible outdoor places are all about!

Have Questions About Your Family Adventure Trip?
We’ve got you covered! Planning a family adventure can lead to a few questions, so we’ve put together a list of the most common ones we hear. From what to wear to what to expect on the river, we’re here to make sure your Mild to Wild rafting experience is unforgettable.
General Questions
What makes a Mild to Wild rafting trip ideal for families?
Our family-friendly rafting trips are designed to provide a perfect blend of excitement and chill. We offer trips on rivers with varying degrees of rapids, from gentle floats to more adventurous white water, suitable for all ages and experience levels. Our professional guides are trained to lead fun trips with safety as our top priority to create lasting memories for everyone in your family.
When is the best time of year for a family rafting trip?
Rafting season and ideal conditions can vary depending on the region. Generally, Mild to Wild family rafting trips are available from spring through fall. Water levels and rapids’ intensity often change throughout the season. Early season might offer higher water and more thrilling rapids, while late summer often brings warmer, calmer water, which is ideal for younger children or a more relaxing float.
Do we need previous rafting experience?
No previous experience is required! We offer trips suitable for beginners and first-time rafters. Your certified guide will provide a comprehensive safety orientation and paddle instruction before you get on the water, ensuring your family feels confident and prepared.
Booking & Logistics
What are the age and weight requirements for kids?
Age requirements vary by river and current water levels to promote the best experience for all. For the most up-to-date information, please check the specific trip page on our website. We have trips suitable for children as young as 4 or weighing a minimum of 35lbs. More adventurous trips have higher minimum age and weight requirements to ensure safety gear fits correctly.
What should we wear and bring on our rafting trip?
We recommend wearing quick-drying clothing such as a swimsuit, shorts, and a synthetic or fleece top. Avoid cotton, as it stays wet and can make you cold. Secure, closed-toe footwear like water shoes or old tennis shoes is a must. You should also bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses with a strap, a change of dry clothes, and a towel to leave in your car for after the trip.
What is your cancellation policy?
Our cancellation policies can vary by trip type and location. For our most up-to-date policy, please refer to the specific trip details provided during the booking process or contact our customer service team. We recommend considering trip insurance to protect your investment from unforeseen circumstances.
Safety & On-the-River Experience
Is white water rafting safe for my family?
Safety is paramount. All of our guides are extensively trained and certified in first aid and CPR. We provide all the necessary safety equipment, including U.S. Coast Guard-approved life vests (PFDs) and helmets. We adhere to the highest safety standards to promote a fun adventure for your family.
What if we fall out of the raft?
While it’s rare on our family-friendly trips, our guides are highly skilled and prepared for this scenario. They will provide a pre-trip safety talk that covers what to do if you take a “swim” and how to easily get back into the raft.
Will we have a guide in our raft?
Yes, a professional and state certified guide will be in every raft to steer the boat, provide paddling commands, and share information about the local history, geology, and ecology.
