Clear Creek Classic Rafting Trip

Idaho Springs, CO

About This Trip

Clear Creek Classic 2 hour 30 Minute Trip

The Clear Creek Classic 2h 30m rafting trip (commonly referred to as the “Gold Rush Trip” or “Clear Creek Beginner Rafting Trip”) travels the river through the heart of historic Idaho Springs. It is fantastic for multi-generational families, experienced rafters, and unexperienced rafters alike. While a bit more mild compared to the advanced/intermediate section, theres plenty of excitement. This river section features consistent paddling, continuous class II rapids, and eight class III rapids. Starting at Chicago Creek and taking out at Kermits Access, the trip spans 5 river miles. It passes historic gold mining sites including the Argo Mine and the Charlie Taylor Water Wheel.

As a free flowing river fed by snowmelt, Clear Creek’s character changes throughout the season. In mid to late June during high water, expect more thrilling waves and splashes, while the late season offers a more technical experience requiring precise navigation around exposed rocks to shoot through narrow river channels!

To see all Clear Creek Rafting options return to the main page.

  • Conquer exciting Class III rapids including Castle Falls, Subway Rapid, and Dizzy Lizzy with more rapids per mile than any other river near Denver.
  • Discover gold rush history where the first gold nugget was discovered at Chicago Creek.
  • See historic sites like the Argo Mine/Mill (once the most profitable mine in the world) and Charlie Taylor Water Wheel.
  • Spot Wildlife: bighorn sheep, river otters, and bears.

Our guide, Miles, was very knowledgeable. It was a great trip. Would give it 4.5 stars only because it wasn't a jeep and there were 11 people. We were all compatible, but that is not always the case with a group that large. Overall, the trip was great.

I did the Mesa Verde Tour with lunch and Ann Rapp, our guide, was the best! She not only provided us with in-depth information, history and theories about the sites we were seeing, but also took a lot of time at some of the less “popular” dwellings so we could understand the varied communities. I can’t speak highly enough of our tour and I think this is an ideal way to experience a broader picture of Mesa Verde and its history.

Tim paid close attention to our conversation on the way to the trail from Durango to Silverton Colorado and used what he learned about us to create the perfect off-roading experience. The route was exciting, scenic, and perfectly suited to our interests—a personal touch we truly appreciated. Even the snacks arrived at exactly the right moment! Tim made us feel comfortable, cared for, and completely immersed in the adventure. It was a memorable experience from start to finish, and we highly recommend both Tim and Mild to Wild!
