The Upper Animas is considered one of the most dangerous commercially run rivers in the United States. It is renowned for its consistent whitewater and breathtaking scenery. The section featured in this video is called the Needleton section. This stunning stretch traverses Colorado’s largest wilderness area, the Weminuche Wilderness. The rapid highlights of this section shown are:
Broken Bridge Rapid: Class V
Rock ’em Sock ’em Robots Rapid: Class IV
Lunch Box Rapid: Class IV
Dinner Gorge: Class IV
Due to the extremeness of this trip, we require guests to attend a safety orientation the evening before your trip and we require you to pass a swim test in order to go. The put-in for this trip is Needleton, and the takeout is at the Tacoma Plant. After taking out, you then ride the train back to Rockwood, which is our final stop before driving back to our Durango office at 50 Animas View Drive, Durango, Colorado 81301.
