Wonderful tour of beautiful La Plata canyon The jeep tour with Cat was fantastic. Cat shared stories of the La Plata canyon folks while pointing out the various highlights of the tour. She took us to the top of the canyon and we were able to walk on the colorado trail and go to the cliff and see phenomenal views. We had a great day Thank you Cat.Posted on Google![]()

5 ⭐️’s for the entire crew at Mild to Wild! Every single employee was helpful, fun, and knowledgeable. I did several activities and each guide was FANTASTIC! ~Kayaking with FELIX was such a great experience. He knew exactly how to help us navigate the river in a kayak! He was so much fun, had such great knowledge of the river and the town, and made the trip extremely enjoyable! ~ I took a La Plata Canyon jeep tour with PAUL, who was also amazing ~ (and extra accommodating especially because I was late and he waited on me, thanks to Owen for contacting him on my behalf!) Paul knew how to navigate the roads up to the canyon impressively! He stopped for all of the scenery, gave great info on the history of the area, and took photos for myself and my group! What a fun experience with views I’ll never forget.~ River rafting with Anthony, aka ANT was top notch! The river was a little low but the guides, including Anthony, are impressive at navigation! Anthony has such great energy and enthusiasm, gives great instruction on what we need to do to power the raft, and made sure that everyone on the boat felt comfortable and had a great time! The entire crew at Mild to Wild makes your entire trip an exciting experience, from the ride to the river, to the time on the river, and the ride back home. A great day all the way around! A special shout out to TAZ for taking great photos so you can take memories home! I highly recommend booking with Mild to WIld for all of your adventures! I can’t wait for my next trip out here!+2Posted on Google![]()

We had a wonderful time on our half day Durango Jeep tour with Kat! She accommodated our two little kids and their interests, gave them a scavenger hunt of things to look for, and was very friendly and knowledgeable. We got to see some exciting waterfalls and areas we wouldn’t have seen on our own. Thank you for a wonderful tour!Posted on Google![]()

My family went on an afternoon jeep tour in Silverton with our guide Jay. It was the most wonderful experience! Jay asked what everyone wanted to see, and waterfalls and mines were mentioned. He drove us to a mine high in the mountains, explained how to look for rocks that may contain metals, and then we got to crack open the rocks right on the mountain to check for metals in them. Along the way, we saw several waterfalls, but he took us to a huge one after our mine adventure! He was incredibly friendly, very informative on everything, and overall just made the entire tour so much more fun than any of us expected. I would recommend anyone to book with Mild to Wild, especially with Jay for the Silverton jeep tour.+1

Colorado Jeep Tours FAQs
When is the best time for a Jeep tour in Colorado?
Anytime during our season (May through October) is a fantastic time to head into the mountains!
- Late Spring (May/June): Ideal for seeing rushing waterfalls in La Plata Canyon and alpine snowbanks near Silverton.
- Summer (July/August): This is the peak for Colorado’s famous wildflowers, which blanket the alpine meadows in vibrant colors.
Fall (September/October): The ultimate time for leaf-peeping as the aspen groves turn brilliant gold against the rugged peaks of the San Juan Mountains.
When can I go on a Colorado Jeep tour?
Our Colorado Jeep tours typically run from May through October, depending on when the mountain roads clear of snow. We offer daily morning and afternoon departures from our Durango and Silverton locations. Our custom-converted, open-air vehicles feature canvas tops for shade and protection from rain showers, and we provide cozy blankets for those crisp morning departures.
What is the minimum age for a Colorado Jeep tour?
The minimum age for our Colorado Jeep tours is 4 years old.
Note: Colorado law requires car seats or boosters for children under 8 years old. If this applies to your group, please bring the appropriate car seat or booster for use in our tour vehicles.
What should I wear and bring on my Colorado Jeep tour?
Weather in the San Juan Mountains can change rapidly, and temperatures are often 10-15 degrees cooler at the summit! We recommend dressing in layers:
- Clothing: A t-shirt paired with a sweatshirt and a windbreaker or warm jacket.
- Footwear: Sturdy sneakers or light hiking boots (no flip-flops).
- Essentials: A sun hat or beanie (depending on the month), polarized sunglasses, and waterproof sunscreen.
- Gear: A refillable water bottle (we provide water for refills) and your camera to capture the 360-degree vistas.
For more details visit our what to wear and bring page.
Are Jeep tours in Colorado safe?
Off-road Jeep touring is an inherently dangerous activity that involves travel over rugged, uneven terrain and narrow shelf roads with significant exposure; therefore, we require all guests to sign a liability waiver and assumption of risk. To minimize these risks, we utilize highly maintained vehicles equipped with roll cages. Our guides are experts in off-road 4×4 navigation and are certified in CPR and First Aid.
