Single Day Piedra River Adventure

The wild Piedra River runs through the Weminuche Wilderness and the San Juan National Forest, both pristine and protected areas. This trip begins at the headwaters of the Piedra (about an hour north of Pagosa Springs) where the river is small and splashy with technical Class II rapids and lots of maneuvering around rocks. As the trip continues, the many creeks feeding into the Piedra Increase its volume. Here you experience wet and fun Class III rapids, as well as a couple of big drop Class IV, stair-step rapids.

After the intermediate first day, get ready for a wild second day! The Lower Box is where the Piedra drops into a 1,000 foot and races through heart-pounding whitewater. Pristine alpine forests, towering granite walls, and undisturbed wildlife are just some of the features that make this section of the river so special. After taking on the fast chutes and huge drop rapids, the riverside hot-springs offer some great relaxation
