Things to Do in Durango Colorado This Winter

By Mild to Wild   •   October 11, 2013

Even though we’re holding on to the last bits of summer (or should I say fall…), it would seem that, here in Durango, Colorado, winter will be here soon! We may be partial to summer activities, but you don’t live in the mountains without a love for winter-time fun! If you’re planning an escape from your normal winter weather or planning a winter break vacation, be sure to put Durango on the list!

Skiing (Alpine & Nordic)

Durango Mountain Resort is located just 30 minutes north of Durango and offers fantastic Southwest downhill skiing! With 88 runs & 10 lifts, everyone from a beginner to a seasoned veteran can find terrain that suits their adventure needs! Across the road, experience the beautiful cross-country skiing trails!

Snowshoeing

A great way to explore the San Juan Mountains, learn about the flora and fauna, and take in the spectacular, snowy views! Durango Mountain Resort offers guided tours (and full moon tours if you can catch them!) throughout the season. Have your own shoes? Check out any of the plethora of trails surrounding Durango!

Cascade Winter Train & Polar Express

The Durango Train doesn’t shut down just because of a little bit (or a lot!) of snow! Experience the winter train to Cascade Canyon all season long. Or hop on the special Polar Express train to the North Pole (offered November 23-January 4)!

Hot Springs

Trimble Hot Springs is a great place to warm up after a long day of winter fun. Relax and soak in the natural springs just north of Durango and add on a massage for extra pampering!
