Best vacation ever!

By Mild to Wild   •   September 14, 2021

Our group of 4 adults and 3 teens recently returned from a 4 day rafting trip on the Gates of Lodore section of the Green River, and it was nothing short of magnificent, and a bargain at twice the price. Gorgeous, ever-changing scenery, frequent wildlife sightings and a mix of easy floating and exciting rapids made each day a fresh adventure, and some days we never saw another human on the river. Best of all, our guides – trip leader Luke and his awesome team of Annie, Scotty and Hayden – were amazing, especially considering the demanding logistics involved in a multi-day trip. They handled every challenge with professionalism, enthusiasm and indefatigable good humor, and their deep love and respect for the river was apparent every day, whether they were leading a hike up into a side canyon, whipping up an incredible meal or expertly negotiating a gnarly rapid, not to mention the less glamorous logistical elements of this kind of outdoor trip, like setting up a bathroom (with a stunning view) and constantly re-inflating the ‘duckies’ (inflatable kayaks, which provide another level of adrenaline if you get tired of the big rafts). It was a real pleasure to be guided by such smart, funny and unflappable pros, and we miss them already.

The trip had something for everyone – some of us just wanted to chill on the raft and watch the beautiful wild world flow past, others wanted to shoot the rapids and hike up to cliffs with jaw-dropping views of the people-free natural landscape, and there were ample opportunities for both excitement and relaxation. Our teenagers, initially reluctant to be untethered from their phones, fully embraced the experience; re-connecting with nature is a wonderful bonding experience, and we were all energized and refreshed by the experience. Can’t wait to go back!
